Reiki and Witchcraft

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that is not related to witchcraft. Many pagans, including witches, are drawn to Reiki as a way to heal themselves and others. Where the confusion comes in connecting Reiki with witchcraft is a mystery. The only groups who have preached this claim are fundamentalist, baptist and occassionally methodist Christian preachers. Jesus started his healing ministry by healing through touch. As he travelled, preached more and worked more miracles he developed the ability to heal from a distance just by saying someone was healed. Sure sounds to me like he was a Reiki I and then became a Reiki II...

The following is an excerpt from Reiki.org which explains further what Reiki is. If you are interested in receiving Reiki from a distance, or if you're in central Texas and would like to receive Reiki in person or be attuned so you can give Reiki to others, please email our Reiki Master, Tiffany Maely, at Tiffany.Maely@hotmail.com for more information.

"Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.

Its use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others..."

  1. Does not come from my God who strictly forbids it in his word. You can channel all the spirits you want but it is not comparable with Gods written word as expounded in the Bible.

  2. To Anonymous. Practice love not judgement. Practice emitting light through your own beliefs & practices (Christianity) instead of searching for darkness in that of others.

  3. Hi, I would have to agree with anonymous. And in respects to what you have said marine, anonymous is no judging incorrectly, but is judging based on what it says in the bible. Now some people say that Jesus practice reiki, but if you look for truth you will find that Jesus did not practice reiki, Jesus was the Son of God, he was Gods spirit in the form of a man so that he could come to earth and fulfill the coming of the messiah to save all the people from their sins. So think about it, Jesus is God, God is all knowing, all powerful, omni-present, God is the almighty, God doesnt need reiki. Reiki is conducted with the use of spirits or 'higher beings' which do not come from God but come from the earthly spirit realm.

    1. Subjective truths do not equal everyone's reality. The bible means nothing to us pagans, although an argument can be made that Jesus used healing touch. Just because it is not named as reiki, does not make it false. You can keep your religion, and we will keep ours. First amendment and all that...

  4. It is important to also remember that darkness does exist, I do not know if you believe in the devil or not. However from my perspective the devil and spirits go together. So in my opinion reiki guides are spirits of darkness masking as spirits of light. It is very possible that these spirits can heal people because they work for the devils purpose which is to deceive people, it allows people to truth themselves and not to trust God. This is not to find fault, think of it as light exposing the truth. Because anytime there is true light it exposes the truth. Anything that appears to be light but hides the truth is not from God.

  5. I appreciate your thoughtful post. I have never tried Reiki but I think it is too bad some people are so quick to judge that they shut themselves off from ideas that could give them enhanced lives. I am sorry for the other commenters for being so close-minded. Caring, acceptance, and joyfulness are the best characteristics that humanity has to offer. Thank you for offering yours.

    1. If you recall in the bible on the day of Pentecost they all spoke with other tongues and were taught to follow go forth and laying on hands as Christ did as the Holy ghost came to them with speaking in tongues.... This gave them the same as of Christ... To be able to lay hands on others and heal them... Missionary andpreacher do this all the time the laying on of hands....
It is a gift we all have we have just been taught that its not of God today
By people who no longer believe in the old ways or truly know their Bible...

  6. Hi, I am a Christian and Witch and I am learning more about Reiki as a form of laying on of hands and to my more fundamentalist brethren, judge not lest be judged.

  7. I was brought up an Anglican Christian but get totally sick of the fundementalist Christians who jump up at everything and say it is the devils work. They make me sick with their condemnation and shoving the Bible at everyone whatever their beliefs. Also I notice on here they are all anonymous. Quite telling don't you think.

  8. I'm a Reiki practitioner and just came out to mark as a Witch. The very first thing I noticed was how beautiful these two come together!
Your post was very helpful and validating, thank you

  9. The most important thing to remember is...for people love on people, that people give light and hope to others, people healing others and not judging just like the bible says. For it says thall shall not judge. so my question is how can an earthly being especially one of Christian background judge others of various beliefs and or preech jesus this Jesus that, when it clearly states in the bible not to judge. love all people the same and that God created us ALL in his own image and loves us ALL the same. Setting religion aside and loving everyone equal no matter their choices or beliefs that's what God intended for each one of us. To be love and light onto the world not judge based on religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, or anything else but to love, support and bring peace to all.

  12. I am pagan and a reiki practitioner. Reiki is beautiful and sacred energy. Christians can be too quick to see Satan in everything. You made him and gave him power. He’s your problem not mine.

I grew up in church but I now see the
Pagan and Reiki as a great combination

  13. We did not create Satan and gave him power. Satan is a fallen angel from heaven who tried to overthrow God. But we r called to love each other no matter who it what they r. We all have to account for our actions come judgement day. Just remember that.
