Why is Health Important to Magic?

Channeling magic for use in rituals, spells and everyday life is an essential ability of a witch. As witches, our bodies are our tool for all magical workings - our hands are our athame and wand, our bodies our chalice, and the space we are in our altar. Like any system that power travels through, the clearer and more conductive the lines the better the power can flow; such as with water pipelines or electrical systems. With our bodies we can limit or increase the level of magic we can raise by altering our health.

Our bodies continually produce electricity which is circulated through our bodies by our nerves and chemical reactions between our cells via electrolytes. Our energetic bodies, also known as our subtle bodies, have a circulation system just like our physical bodies. An energy field exists around each person and is called the aura. The aura is like the skin of the subtle body and absorbs and gives off energy in a continual flow. The seven chakras, located at the top of the head, forehead, throat, chest, solar plexes, abdomen and genitals, are the entry/exit points into our system. The energy around us is absorbed into our aura and pulled in through our chakras. It is then transformed into subtle energy, much like our digestive system takes in food and transforms it into chemical energy we can use. Energy flows between the chakras through channels known as the nadis. Then it flows along meridians to our organs and physical systems to breathe life into our cells.

As scientists are proving more and more, we witches already know that the energy of our subtle bodies affects our physical health. But how many remember that the opposite is also true? The health of our subtle body is intricately entwined with the health of our emotions, spirit and physical body. If your body is unable to perform the tasks it was assigned to do, it sends out negative pulses saying "I can't". This sends ripples through your energy that are aggravating and can impede the flow of energy. Many healing forms have been developed to clear these flow blockages - acupuncture, aura clearing, and smudging to name a few. Energy healing forms are only a piece of the equation though. The root problem is diet, exercise and stress management. As you show respect for yourself by feeding your body the nutrients it needs to make more cells, exercising to improve your strength and cardiovascular systems, and manage stress by letting go of the unimportant, your energy levels will increase. Your body will radiate to your subtle body "I can. I am healthy".

Subtle Body Health + Physical Health
= A Powerful Witch

Reiki and Witchcraft

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that is not related to witchcraft. Many pagans, including witches, are drawn to Reiki as a way to heal themselves and others. Where the confusion comes in connecting Reiki with witchcraft is a mystery. The only groups who have preached this claim are fundamentalist, baptist and occassionally methodist Christian preachers. Jesus started his healing ministry by healing through touch. As he travelled, preached more and worked more miracles he developed the ability to heal from a distance just by saying someone was healed. Sure sounds to me like he was a Reiki I and then became a Reiki II...

The following is an excerpt from Reiki.org which explains further what Reiki is. If you are interested in receiving Reiki from a distance, or if you're in central Texas and would like to receive Reiki in person or be attuned so you can give Reiki to others, please email our Reiki Master, Tiffany Maely, at Tiffany.Maely@hotmail.com for more information.

"Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.

Its use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others..."

Am I A Good Witch?

What really constitutes a "good" witch? Do you have to be a vegan, or never curse anyone, or know every spell ever created? No, no and no. The base definition for witch is someone who practices magick. A deeper meaning is one who is self aware, disciplined and knowledgeable enough to perform magick with powerful results. Anyone can wish on a shooting star, but a witch brings their wish into reality. Every spell you do won't work perfectly or instantly as being a witch is a path, not a destination. Continual growth and development are how we progress. So how do you continue to become more self aware, disciplined and knowledgeable? By focusing on 3 areas: healing, divination and community service.

Healing
There isn't one specific healing art you have to learn. Some of the ones I enjoy are herbalism, soul retrieval, Reiki, nutrition and fitness. The body, mind and spirit can all be injured or sickened, so I suggest learning various healing modalities while mastering one or two. Then teach what you've mastered to others. When you teach it's amazing how much more you'll learn!

Divination
Divination is the ability to see hidden knowledge through psychic means. Witches are historically marked by their ability to know information about the past, present and future magickally. Divination allows you to learn more about yourself, others, situations and decisions. Popular forms of divination include reading Tarot cards, water dowsing, and scrying. Remote viewing is a form of divination that was used by the CIA in which the viewer sees objects and places psychically. Through helping others you'll help yourself by increasing your psychic abilities.

Community Service
We are all members of our communities and should look for ways to help others. By enriching the lives of those around us we enrich ourselves, much like through teaching we learn. Through finding ways to serve others we can also share what we believe through proving we're not evil or sinister. Some ways to serve include picking up trash, volunteering at hospitals or schools, and participating in charity 5k events.

Share dreams, inspire love, heal hearts,
embrace spirits, nurture souls…

Body Mind Spirit Expos

A great way to learn about hollistic and natural healing techniques, the Body Mind Spirit Expos are held around the U.S. every year. These expos have various booths and lectures which cover every healing modality from herbal supplements, to shamanic drumming, to metaphysics.

This year we'll be traveling to the one in Austin the weekend of July 23-24. Admission is $10 which covers both days. Various speakers will be offering free lectures on digital infrared thermal imaging, the CIA's Remote Viewing program, light & sound in the therapuetic setting, chi generators & orgonite, superfoods, stone vibrations, acupuncture without needles, holographic sound healing and more! Last year, at the San Marcos, Tx Expo, we not only enjoyed the lectures but speaking with the various vendors at their booths. It's a great place to not only learn but to network with other healers, people interested in metaphysics and pagans.
